Tales of Uncle Bill

Story 1
Story 15
Many families have odd, mad, accident-prone or eccentric members, and mine has several, but standing head and shoulders above all of them was Uncle Bill. He was all of these things and more.

He was a Londoner, and he spoke and looked much like TV’s Alf Garnet, and yet he had many hair raising escapades like Frank Spencer. Quite a combination.

He was an engineer. Not a civil engineer, electrical, mechanical, structural or anything else specific, he was just an engineer, or rather, a 'wannabee' engineer. He was the fount of all engineering knowledge and would make anything at the drop of a hat. He could easily have been the inspiration for Heath-Robinson.

Now the last of his generation has passed away, I think it timely to write a few short essays on some of his exploits, partly for others to enjoy, but also so that later Elliott generations can marvel at a famous ancestor.
